Adopt a Highway:  Rebels Collect Trash

Upon an invitation by Delaware D.O.T., the Rebel Runners participate in the statewide "Adopt-a-Highway" program. June 22, 2008 was our first trash pick-up day and 24 members got to work...

Our assigned road is Graves Road (just over a mile from Delcastle) from Mill Creek Road to Loville Road, a 2 mile stretch of rolling hills crossing Rt. 41. Screech and Sit Down organized the event. Instead of race shirts, we were given bright DelDOT vests which kept us all safe.

Trash Collection / Litter Pick-up / Scavenger Hunt

Keeping roads clean is an appropriate community service project for runners, since we see trash alot more up close and personal than motorists do. Volunteering to remove litter was an easy decision for our group.

Naturally, on the morning of the clean-up, many of us gathered at 8am on Main Street, Newark for our weekly run. After 8 or 10 or 12 miles, we were sufficiently warmed up to carry out our duties.
